Black Lives Matter marchers on Trump-supporting counterprotesters: ‘Hopefully they get the message’

A Black Lives Matter march through Palos Hills on Saturday showed how much work remains to be done to help people in the south and southwest suburbs understand racism and systemic inequality.
It’s as if people on opposite sides of the debate are unwilling or unable to see the issue from a different perspective.
About 20 counter demonstrators waved signs that showed support for President Donald Trump and confronted about 100 protesters as they walked along Roberts Road between 111th and 103rd streets.
“We were met with an incredible amount of hate yesterday,” participant Christian Perry of Palos Heights wrote Sunday on social media. “In this American suburb, the response to one saying My Black Life Matters is Let’s Go Trump? That should disturb every American.”
The march was a snapshot of race relations in the Southland. Trump supporters chanted that all lives mattered. They voiced support for police and condemned abortion, videos from the event showed.
